UCPEA Administrative Manager

The University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association has an immediate opening for a full-time Administrative Manager in Storrs, CT. 


Position Overview 

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Administrative Manager is responsible for facilitating the cohesive functioning of the union through managing the administrative procedures and daily operations of the UCPEA Office. The successes of the organization depend on the complex administrative support provided by the Administrative Manager. 


Duties & Responsibilities 

  1. Develops, implements, and oversees a robust office operational and administrative infrastructure using modern methods and information technology systems to maintain the union’s records, documents, and data. 
  2. Audits administrative procedures to ensure consistent implementation of best practices and provides feedback to improve organization and communication through the development of administrative policies. 
  3. Facilitates adherence to internal administrative policies and procedures through effective communication and coordination with other staff, committees, and executive board members. 
  4. Supervises administrative staff and ensures the seamless and efficient daily operation of the office. 
  5. Serves as a liaison between the UCPEA office and the University’s Human Resources Information Systems and manages the organization, storage, and archival of the union’s data. 
  6. Maintains website, newsletter, and other public facing communication tools. 
  7. Facilitates logistics for events, meetings, retreats, conferences, interviews, orientations, and training sessions. 
  8. Supports internal and external committees as assigned. 
  9. Performs other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications 

  1. Knowledge of administrative and office procedures. 
  2. Knowledge of record management systems. 
  3. Proficient in using cloud-based data access and sharing programs. 
  4. Proficient in using modern data management systems such as CRMs or similar. 
  5. Advanced Excel skills. 
  6. Ability to analyze internal admin processes and implement best practices. 
  7. Ability to maintain knowledge of modern office technology. 
  8. Ability to learn to operate new office technologies as they are developed and implemented. 
  9. Knowledge of principles involved in coordination of people and resources. 
  10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  11. Excellent interpersonal skills. 
  12. BA or at least 3 years in a position responsible for the admin and operational functions of a similar sized or bigger organization. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  1. Demonstrated commitment to social justice
  2. Website development and design 

Position Benefits 

The salary range is $58,000 - $65,000; benefits include generous vacation and sick leave provisions, paid holidays, 401k, and employer-paid medical and dental coverage.

UCPEA Field Representative

The University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association has an immediate opening for a full-time UCPEA Field Representative in Storrs, CT.


Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the UCPEA Field Representative is responsible for interpreting contract language, providing representation during contractual and processes handling member issues, grievances, reclassifications and conducting data analysis. Travel to all University of Connecticut campuses is required. The UCPEA Field Representative reports directly to the Executive Director.


Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Interprets Union contract. 
  2. Provides union representation during formal contractual processes including fact finding, pre-disciplinary hearings, reclassification, non-contractual and contractual grievances at all UConn campuses. 
  3. Provides union support to members participating in university processes through the university offices such as the Office Institutional Equity and Compliance.
  4. Handles member complaints/issues and advocates for members on informal issues.
  5. Serves on the union’s negotiating team as assigned. Duties may include preparing for bargaining, writing contract language, data collection and analysis, and documenting bargaining sessions.
  6. Contributes to internal and external communications and publications.
  7. Assists in the development of training material and conducting workshops for Union Stewards, member groups, and committees.
  8. Conducts internal and external research and provides data analysis. 
  9. Supports union committees as assigned. 
  10. Upholds a strict level of confidentiality and professionalism. 
  11. Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in labor studies or related field. 
  2. Demonstrated commitment to empower workers through the labor movement. 
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  4. Excellent administrative, organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to identify and resolve complex problems. 
  5. Ability to work effectively with office staff, Executive Board, union members, and the University community. 
  6. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications

Preferred Qualifications

Previous employment by a labor union with a minimum of two years’ experience in the following areas: 

  1. Contract Management 
    • Grievances and services for members 
    • Internal organizing 
    • Collective Bargaining 
  2. Master’s degree in labor studies.
