Contract negotiations for the new UCPEA collective bargaining agreement began in February 2025. Since then, the previous Collective Bargaining Agreement expired in July 2025, and employees are currently working under a contract extension.
At this time, many members may have heard about other state unions going to arbitration over wage increases and may be wondering if or when UCPEA will do the same. It is important to note that none of the higher education units in the state have received wage proposals. This can understandably lead to frustration or apathy, but this is a statewide issue. UCPEA is part of a larger coalition that includes many public higher education institutions across Connecticut. We remain committed to advocating in solidarity with our sibling unions for fair wages for all members.
As of the November 18 negotiation session, UCPEA has submitted all major proposals for discussion. Negotiations are now focused on refining details and securing the strongest possible contract language to protect and benefit our members. Some of the big topics still on the table are:

The UCPEA bargaining team remains fully committed to securing the best possible agreement with the University on these and all other contract issues. We are not walking away from the negotiating table any time soon. While it is natural to want quick results, rest assured that your negotiating team is working tirelessly to protect and strengthen our contract. Members can support this effort by signing up to observe negotiation sessions. As we approach an agreement, it is more important than ever for members to show up and demonstrate our unity and determination.
When more members show up, we present a stronger, united front and make it clear that we will not accept a subpar contract. When we show up, we remind the University that we are the reason UConn thrives. When we show up, we win.
