Scope of these contract negotiations
The contract covers what we can bargain with the University. There are other things that cannot be bargained with the University. These include, but are not limited to:
- Healthcare benefits, retirement, and pension – these are part of the SEBAC Agreement (Listed among other key documents on the UCPEA website). UCPEA cannot negotiate the details of this state-wide agreement during our current contract negotiations with the University. The current SEBAC agreement expires on 6/30/2027 and all members will be called on to help fight for our benefits!
- Sick time payouts – Section 5-247 of the State Personnel Act allows for payouts of accrued sick leave. UCPEA sick leave is tracked "as if" it was accrued, but it is not technically accrued. Therefore, it does not meet the criteria for payout as outlined in the statute. This may be worth pursuing in future negotiations, but would require more research to determine if other state statutes would invalidate updated contract language.
