Reminder: Take the time off you're entitled to!

As the holiday season approaches, it's important to remember to take the time off you're entitled to!

Remember, your vacation time balance will continue to grow until you hit the maximum of 60 days. If your balance exceeds 60 days, any time above the maximum will be lost after December 31st if no action is taken. Holiday time also expires at the end of the calendar year. If you worked on a holiday in 2024 and earned holiday comp time for your labor, that time will be lost on December 31st if no action is taken.

(Don’t worry, if you earned holiday time this year, you have until the end of 2026 to use it.)

Before any time is lost consider these three options:

  1. Use your time! Take vacation time to travel, to spend time with family, or just to take a break.
  2. For vacation time only: Request a roll-over of a vacation balance that is above 60 days. Make this request through your supervisory line. The appropriate Vice President, Director, or Designee has the ultimate authority to approve a request under Article 6.1 c. UCPEA employees will only be approved for a vacation time roll-over once.
  3. Consider donating vacation time to the UCPEA sick bank. Donations of vacation and holiday time are accepted during the last pay period in December. These donations directly benefit UCPEA members who are out on an extended medical or caregiver leave.

The union contract outlines different accrual rates and expiration dates for each type of earned time. Download the UCPEA earned time chart for more information.
