Many UCPEA employees have learned that their life is more balanced when they have the opportunity to work remotely. Simultaneously, UCPEA staff have maintained high degrees of productivity and quality work while utilizing remote or hybrid work models. What does not work is when management arbitrarily takes these options away. This forces unneeded disruptions to the lives of UCPEA employees. The recent contract bargaining efforts prioritized building contract language that gives power back to employees to determine what will work best for their type of work and for their specific needs.
As a result, UCPEA has a new telecommuting appeal process in the 2025-2029 UCPEA contract. UCPEA anticipates that the Kuali form that will guide this process will launch on September 8, 2026.
UCPEA employees should refer to Article 16.5 for the full details of the telecommuting appeal process. These are a few items to keep in mind as the process moves forward:
- All UCPEA employees have the right to appeal a telecommuting denial if
- No remote days are approved, or
- If only one remote day is approved
- UCPEA employees may appeal a decision even when management says that they will not approve additional remote days.
- The appeal panel will include one UCPEA member and one Management member. Our UCPEA team is ready to hear appeals, and to protect the ability for UCPEA employees to create reasonable hybrid schedules.
- We anticipate that the Kuali form will be available for appeals starting on September 8, 2026.
- If a full or partial denial has already been issued, the timeline for appeal will not start until the Kuali form becomes available.
- The process is outlined in this flow chart. Contact your Steward and/or the UCPEA office with additional questions (ucpeaoffice@ucpea.org)
