This year our union passed some small but mighty changes to our constitution and approved a resolution that affirms and defines our solidarity with our immigrant neighbors. You can read the exact language changes here, but we codified our Contract Action Team (CAT) so that it is a permanent part of our organizations structure. The CAT did amazing work keeping the membership engaged and informed about our contract negotiations and it is very exciting to know the work will continue. We also amended the constitution to provide more flexibility in seeking convention delegates from the membership, shortening the nomination window from 14 days to 7.
Finally, as a membership we passed the Sanctuary Union Resolution, which outlines UCPEA’s commitment to supporting our immigrant neighbors and resisting any federal activity that restricts their civil and human rights. You can read more about what it means to be a sanctuary union here.
Special thanks to the Social Justice Committee and the Constitution and Bylaws Committee for making this happen!
